Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is at least 1.5 line-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are signposted throughout and placed at the end, or as separate files.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Types of publication

  • Experimental investigations. The GJSSCMR publishes original research articles that should highlight the significance and novel contribution of the work. Research involving human participants must describe oversight of the research process by the relevant ethical committee.
  • Systematic reviews including meta-analyses.
  • Student conference abstracts (please contact the Editorial Office).

 

Manuscript Length

Length of manuscripts submitted to the GJSSCMR will vary in length depending on the nature of submission; experimental investigations should be no longer than 6,000 words when using a quantitative design and 9,000 when using qualitative methods. Systematic Reviews should be no longer than 6,000 words.

 

Preparing your manuscript for submission

The Graduate Journal of Sports Science, Coaching, Management, & Rehabilitation offers a free format submission for a simple and streamline submission process. Your manuscript should be in an editable file format (e.g., word.doc) including text, figures, and tables, or separate files, whichever you prefer. All required sections should be contained in your manuscript and figures should be uploaded in the highest resolution possible (tiff or JPEG, at least 300 dpi). References may be submitted in any style or format, as long as they are consistently cited throughout the manuscript and acknowledged in a reference list at the end of the manuscript. Supporting information should be submitted in separate files. If the manuscript, figures, or tables are difficult for you to read, they will also be difficult for the editors and reviewers, and the editorial office will send it back to you for revision. Your manuscript may also be sent back to you for revision if the quality of English language is poor.

Title

The title of a manuscript should be accurate, explanatory, and preferably no longer than 12 words. The title should reflect both the content and population studied. If possible, the title should also reflect the methodology of the article.

Abstract

All manuscripts must include an abstract containing a maximum of 250 words. Up to five keywords should be listed in alphabetical order after the abstract and these should express the precise content of the manuscript as they will be used for indexing purposes.

Main text

Please check abbreviations. Non-standard abbreviations must be spelled out at first mention, with the abbreviated form appearing in parentheses. Thereafter, they should be used without definition.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figure legends should follow the Reference list and please check that all tables and figures are numbered consecutively, in order of appearance in the text. Any colour figures will be published online, in colour.

Third-party materials

Authors are expected to ensure any third-party material used in their submission can be shared under a CC BY license. You should provide proof that the material is in the public domain or available under another compatible open license. If this is not the case you will need to provide written permission from the copyright holder allowing you to use and publish the work.

Author rights retention

Authors retain their copyright in any work submitted under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. Users are allowed to copy, distribute, and transmit the work in any medium or format provided that the original authors and source are credited.
